About For The Fallen

FOR THE FALLEN is a collaborative effort between SSG Gary N. Huckaby and artist/illustrator K. L. Jones to honor the men and women that gave their lives in service to the United States of America.

For the Fallen will give their families a framed picture engraved with the name of their loved one. The original idea was for just one picture that was to be given to Mrs. Jan Johnson, the mother of Justin W. Johnson, a Specialist in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Johnson and Gary ’s wife and mother were members of a support group for families of service members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan . Mrs. Johnson helped the Huckabys cope with Gary ’s 2-year absence. Shortly after SSG Huckaby returned safely, Mrs. Johnson’s son Justin was deployed to Iraq for the first time. Sadly, he lost his life only two weeks later.

SSG Huckaby wanted to give her a token of his appreciation for her support of his family and for the loss of Justin, so he approached his friend K. L. Jones to draw a picture of a fallen soldier to present to her. As the picture progressed the idea came about that it would be a kind gesture to give every family that lost a loved one a picture. So, in 2005, K. L. Jones set about creating eight different versions of the picture to be given away.

However, the cost of printing, framing, engraving and shipping the more than 4000 pictures would far exceed the financial reach of SSG Huckaby or K. L. Jones combined so this web site was created to help get these pictures to the families. They are asking any businesses, church groups, civic organizations or private citizens to help them in their effort to give something back to these families that have lost so much.
